CAST: Waldemar Torenstra, Tygo Gernandt, Jelka van Houten, Fedja van Huêt, Ryanne van Dorst, Ruben van der Meer, Horace Cohen, Lisa Smit, Loes Luca, Robert de Hoog

I watched Baantjer Het Begin yesterday at the cinema and i was blown away, based on watching the trailer i expected it to be good and i was right. The movie is set in a dark gritty and dirty Amsterdam in 1980, full of violent cops, prostitutes and squaters. The film takes place a few days before queen Beatrix gets crowned, newbie Jurre de Cock (Waldemar Torenstra) starts his first day at the police station. And soon teams up with the experienced kinda dirty cop Tonnie (Tygo Gernandt at his best), i won't reveal too much but it's the best dutch movie i've seen in years. And political incorrect as they come, squaters getting beaten up by the police. And one hell of a brutal interrogation scene, so you don't have to worry about it having a lack of action, and the acting is top notch. They did a great job on this one, i hope the movie wins a golden calf.

Where to begin... A young couple vacation at a remote villa in Italy to repair their troubled relationship. They soon encounter their seemingly over-friendly neighbour whose motives are anything but kind. Okay so, first of all, the plot itself is too similar to better movies that have come before it. The performances by the two lead actors (Emily Ratajkowski & Aaron Paul) are just terrible. Which is disappointing as I a big Aaron fan since Breaking Bad. The whole thing is just so awkward to watch, and leaves you cringing for all the wrong reasons. I've always thought Emily Ratakjowski was a mediocre actress, but this bumps her down to just plain terrible. Her only skill she seems to possess in this film is moaning. Take a drink? Moan. Sprain an ankle? Moan. Just beat a guy to death?....... Yep you're right again. If you want to spend an hour and a half listening to the overtly/unnecessary sexualised moans of Emily Ratajkowski, then this is the movie for you. Otherwise, if you find that sort of thing unbearable - do yourselves a favour and skip it.

If "The Wild Bunch" is Peckinpah's masterpiece (and it is)...then "Bring Me The Head Of Alfredo Garcia" is the master director's "other masterpiece". Dark, funny and violent...once seen you'll never forget it. The movie's ambiance of desperation is so thick...especially during the film's second half...that you find yourself hoping that Bennie succeeds in his journey. Not because you relate to the character (he's a shady piano player...willing to gamble everything for a shot at reward money), but because of his sheer single mindedness...once he loses what matters most to him...he's really already dead. What's left is a man stripped down to two mindsets...1.) completing his task and 2.) revenge. It's in the handling of this that the movie reaches true greatness. The movie is a fever dream caught on film...psychotic...naked...and raw. It skates so close to imploding on its own pretensions...yet by film's end, Peckinpah somehow makes it all work. Thanks in no small part to one of the great American actors of all time...Warren Oates. Oates always delivers...but I'd rank his work here above his amazing turn in "Cockfighter". Knowing that the actor was basically playing Peckinpah himself, makes this an especially interesting performance for fans of both mavericks to look at. The fact that most critics hated the film upon release only adds to the movie's legend. Those critics were clearly wrong (I'm talking to you Mr. Medved) and its nice to see the movie get the praise it always deserved. Add to that the fact that this is the only film of his that Peckinpah had final cut on...and you have what is probably the most "honest" film of his impressive career. One of the great films of the 70's.

The story is simple that a blind man takes revenge but with a lot of twist and turns. Rohan, a proficient dubbing artiste and Supriya, a talented pianist--who despite their handicap have a positive disposition towards life. They fall in love and gets married but something tragic happens and their world is destroyed. That`s when Ronit Roy and corrupt police officers, played efficiently by Narendra Jha and Girish Kulkarni, drag their feet over the investigation. When the humiliation gets too much to bear, Supriya caves in, leaving Rohan with vendetta on his mind. Here, the film shifts gears and though you know what`s next, the cat and mouse game still gives you an adrenaline rush. Every time the blind vigilante commits an atrocity, you whistle in the aisle. The main highlight is Hrithik`s performance. He has literally given it all. Yami provides the perfect foil, subtle and super-effective.Technically the film is adept, Thanks to masters like Sudeep Chatterjee (camera) and Resul Pookutty(sound). However Rajesh Roshan`s yesteryear hits—Saara Zamana and Dil Kya Karen in their remixed avatars are pale imitations of their original versions. P.S. Its very emotional and watch out for the last 15 minutes
